I’m back to posting here because I recently found a not so recent portuguese band (10 years now!).  I was so moved by their music that I couldn’t let it pass, so here they are, Wraygunn:

Hello. This is the final regular post of this tubecast. For this show I chose three live performances of three great bands, all somewhat related to a closure.

Hello.  Another show with two bands from my archives, the portuguese reggae/african/world music sound of Terrakota and the shoegazer/80’s really underrated band Swallow. Enjoy.

Hello. This is Emptying the bottle number 9. Sara Tavares, a portuguese singer, and Spain, a relatively unknown american moody rock band, are my choices for today. Enjoy.

Hello.  Today’s show will present one of the most internationally known portuguese bands, Madredeus, which became famous after their participation in Win Wenders‘ film Viagem a Lisboa, Lisbonne Story. Here they are in Haja o que houver, As Ilhas dos Açores, Faluas do Tejo and O Pastor.

Hello. Some more bands and artists from my archive.

First, straight from the eighties shoegazer scene, Lush, with Superblast and Hypocrite.

Now, a one-hit portuguese female artist, that became one of the best known news pivot in Portugal. Manuela Moura Guedes in Foram Cardos, Foram Prosas:

Now a german band, Nena, with its biggest international hit, 99 Luft Balons:

Finally, a band that was my 9th grade english teacher’s favourite, at the time, but that never achieved real success. I always wondered why — I thought they had some very nice and simple pop songs. When I first saw their videos, on YouTube, while researching for this blog, I finally got it: they had a strange and geek look, that would never appeal to the teenagers of the late seventies. You know, video did kill the radio star :)

New Musik in Sanctuary, This World Of Water, Straight Lines and Living By Numbers.
