Show #33 (Covers – Little Wing)

Hello.

This is the last show I will do from The Netherlands and it will be, again, a cover’s show. This time, however, it’ll be only covers of a specific song, one that I already featured twice in this blog — Little Wing, by Jimi Hendrix (look it up!). It shows that there’s something about me and this song, doesn’t it? So here it goes, Little Wing covered six times, by six different artists:

The Corrs

So, which one do you prefer?  I’m particularly fond of the Sting’s and Monte Montgomery’s versions, but all of them just go to show one thing: the original is a great song :)   Feel free to post your opinions in the comments section.

See you next week.

I really love the version by The Corrs. I actually have their unplugged CD the song is on, IMHO the only CD by The Corrs that is really worth getting, and this is certainly a gem of it. The other versions don’t do much for me, but Monte Montgomery certainly seems to be a guitar genius. :)

  2. Hi Viv. I see you’re still interested in covers :)

The idea for this show came to me precisely after listening to The Corr’s cover, at my sister’s home. It was the first time I had heard it and it seemed funny to me that I knew so many versions of this song. In the eight or nine weeks after that afternoon I started collecting Little Wing’s covers on YouTube and decided to do the show when it became apparent that I had material for more than one. I’m still looking for good videos of some of the versions I know but couldn’t find — hence the inclusion of things like the Skid Row go at it.

Anyway, I think the original is well worth all of the covers — it’s the work of a genius.
